 Kia ora Junette,

As we discussed recently, WDC has had intentions to improve its waste management capacity in the Mahia   peninsula for a while now, this has included plans to implement an improved recycling centre and   potentially a green waste transfer are

As yet, no decision has been made as to the most suitable location   for this.  The investigation in to   available   & suitable sites is ongoing.

At this stage, the intention is to   provide a static site for processing of recyclables.  The days and times of   operation are not decided yet as   this would need to be agreed with the land owner(s).

The set up of the   recycling centre is likely to entail   installation of bins for containment of recyclables as   well as fencing, hard   stand and if necessary   CCTV/lighting.  Every effort will be taken to ensure that any   such site does not   interfere or affect the   surrounding land or residents.

The area that we looked at on Mahia East Coast Road is below that I have   visited and discussed with David   and Moe.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

 Thanks

Kia Ora Luke,

Thank you for the update.

I do have a few questions that you and I spoke about the last time we spoke on the phone.

If this project goes ahead, will you be using the container style bins that we spoke about? (Cost of a 20 meters  on Trade Me is around $2,000.00) + cutting and welding. 'This one is a solid idea.' (Sounds easy)

  • Will the fences be wire and battens or boards?
  • And what are the chances of having a shelter belt around part of the fencing? I'll attach a picture.
  • When the trust gets more settled, we may look at the shelter trees, if it's not possible for yous'. Just a thought it would make the area less of an eyesore. And maybe blend in with the environment, and also it puts a gap between the urupa and the recycling area. (So much to take into consideration)
  • Have we asked the surrounding owners yet?
  • One of the whanau on the trust has suggested that the green waste could possibly go up the Lane side of the whenua.
  • I know this is all a big, 'IF', it's probably like the rates. Still trying to figure out the figures.
  • How much land is the bottom piece?
  • CCTV ?

Thank you, Luke.

 Kia ora Junette,

·      Compartmentalised bins are one of the ideas I am looking in to.  This depends on the final site chosen        and will need to be agreed with the landowners as well.  I have seen them work well in Hastings district, so    I am keen to investigate it further<

·      I would be intending for the fencing to be sufficient to keep unwanted waste and people out and any          recycling on the site to be kept in, so it’s likely that it would need to be netting/mesh

·      Thanks for the picture.  That’s certainly something we can consider, it’s important that we kepe the site     in keeping with the surround environment where we can, so this might be a good step   At this stage, I have not had any conversations with the surrounding owners, but I understand that David  and Moe may have done so.

·        I think a separation of the green waste may be a good option too.  Can look at this further

The area I highlighted is about 1500m2 or 0.15 hectares

·        CCTV and lighting would be part of the consideration of the security of the sight as well.  I am also          keen to develop a custodian relationship with the operator.

Hopefully that answers a few of your questions.  We are still in the investigations stages, so the exact              methodology and plans are to be defined when we have identified a suitable site.

  Thanks

  Luke
